A letter written to Hon. Rob Renner, Medicine Hat

I am writing you to voice my opinion on the recent provincial budget cuts. Cuts to education, whether early education or post-secondary education, are completely unacceptable. How can the provincial government view the education of our children, our FUTURE, as so insignificant that we have succumb to such drastic budget cuts? As a parent of 5 young children I am currently appalled to admit that I live in Alberta. I can't fathom how the provincial government can cut the budgets so drastically that it affects our children, and their learning environments. Budget cuts aren't the answer. If the defecit is a problem, raise taxes. Implement PST. All other provinces have PST to generate revenue, why does the Alberta Government feel that they are "above" all other provinces? Start taxing tobacco products, liquor and entertainment at a higher rate. These things are not NEEDS... these are WANTS. Education on the other hand, is a NEED. My children, and all the other children in Alberta NEED to be educated. Education, at every level, is so very important to every aspect of life. Without a decent education, our children will go nowhere in life. Without an education, our children will grow up to tax the system as they end up relying on social services to get by. Without an education our children have no future. Please, fight against the education budget cuts. Please fight FOR our children.
